Since moving to Kalgan River in 2015, Wayne has embarked on a wonderful project to explore the outback trails of the Great Southern - one of the least known tracks in WA but equal to the great outback routes traversing Australia.

Explore the Plantagenet and surrounding wine region on a fully guided day trip from Albany in the Great Southern area of Western Australia.

&nbsp;

Start the day with a visit to the&nbsp;Anzac Centre, Fort and Light Horse Memorial&nbsp;in Albany. Perched on Mt Adelaide, where you can enjoy the superb panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and seascapes including Middletown Beach and Emu Point. Learn about&nbsp;Australia&rsquo;s first contingent of WWI troops&nbsp;who were anchored in a large convoy of troopships in King George Sound (October 1914)

The next stop takes you to&nbsp;Emu Point&nbsp;where there&#39;s much to discover, as you take in the views of Oyster Harbour. Let curiosity lead the way as&nbsp;you hear about the recovery programs for the sea grasses and the re-establishment of local oysters using an artificial reef system. Continue the tour to view the&nbsp;Aboriginal fish traps at Oyster Harbour. The Aboriginal Menang peoples of the Noongar nation trapped different fish species as a major food source. You will visit&nbsp;cultural sites more than 6,000 years old.&nbsp;

Now that you&#39;ve got to know the area, it&#39;s time to revel in the Porongurup Range &ndash;&nbsp;famous for its tall karri and open jarrah forests, unique ecosystems and massive granite rocks. One of the five&nbsp;wine-growing regions in the Great Southern, it is renowned for producing distinctively flavoured wines.&nbsp;

Settle in for a&nbsp;wine tasting and morning tea in Stirling Range&nbsp;before heading to Mt Barker to visit the&nbsp;Old Gaol, Police Station and Museum.

Sit back in comfort as your guide takes you along the Albany Highway to Gilberts Winery&nbsp;Cellar by Gilbert&nbsp;for wine tastings and an inclusive lunch. Enjoy a glass of complimentary wine with your meal as you take in the impressive grounds.&nbsp;

Homeward bound, stop at the&nbsp;world&rsquo;s largest Sandalwood Oil Distillery&nbsp;at Mt. Romance where you can browse a range of essential sandalwood oil products. Enjoy your&nbsp;afternoon tea surrounded by the alluring scents&nbsp;of sandalwood. Learn about the highly prized sandalwood industry which is harvested widely throughout Western Australia and exported internationally.&nbsp;

After your final stop,&nbsp;return in comfort to your accommodation in Albany.&nbsp;
