Since moving to Kalgan River in 2015, Wayne has embarked on a wonderful project to explore the outback trails of the Great Southern - one of the least known tracks in WA but equal to the great outback routes traversing Australia.

Embark on a half-day guided tour of a boutique, sustainable farm situated in Western Australia&rsquo;s tranquil Great Southern region. Spend the day with a knowledgeable guide as you visit&nbsp;significant historical and cultural sites around Albany before walking through the impressive ground of The Grange on Kalgan.&nbsp;

Where we visit

Start the day by&nbsp;exploring Albany&rsquo;s military history&nbsp;on a visit to the Anzac Centre and Light Horse Memorial. This is situated near a high point on Mt Adelaide where you can enjoy the superb panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and seascapes including Middletown Beach and Emu Point.&nbsp;

&nbsp;

On your way past&nbsp;Middleton Beach, stop for impressive ocean views at&nbsp;Emu Point&nbsp;and uncover what makes&nbsp;Oyster Harbour&nbsp;such a significant site. There is much to discover: the recovery programs for the sea grasses, the commercial farming and the re-establishment of local oysters using an artificial reef system. Keep an eye out for local birdlife as you learn about the&nbsp;history of the site, spanning 6,000 years. The Aboriginal Menang peoples of the Noongar nation trapped different fish species as a major food source.&nbsp;

Next up, travel to a working sustainable farm stay, situated on land that is known for its unique ecological systems. Be treated to a guided tour of&nbsp;The Grange on Kalgan&nbsp;and learn first-hand how the family has&nbsp;adopted eco-responsible sustainable practices&nbsp;involving recycling, water conservation, organically grown produce, solar energy and how the owner continues to actively support its conservation of native fauna and flora.&nbsp;

&nbsp;

Relax in the outdoor entertaining area and soak up the rolling green views. Enjoy&nbsp;afternoon tea or a glass of wine&nbsp;while you admire the views of the tranquil waters of the beautiful Kalgan River.&nbsp;

&nbsp;

End the half-day tour feeling rejuvenated and ready for your&nbsp;transfer back to Albany, returning at approx. 5pm.&nbsp;
