To get to Goat Island from Auckland, follow SH1 to Warkworth, and then follow the large brown Goat Island Marine Reserve signs from Matakana through to Leigh and then onto Goat Island.

There are no food outlets at Goat Island, however there are plenty of places to eat in Leigh and Matakana- ask the staff for their recommendations!

No. There is no ferry to Goat Island.

Goat Island is a small island around 60 meters from the mainland. &nbsp;

No. It is a Marine Reserve so dogs are strictly prohibited both on the beach and in the picnic areas. Please leave your dog at home!

Yes. There are both toilets and outdoor beach showers (no hot water) facilities at the reserve. There is no drinking water, and there are no BBQ&acute;s- however there are picnic tables where you can enjoy your lunch.

A marine reserve is a type of marine protected area. In a marine reserve, the collection, removal, feeding and killing of any marine life is prohibited- including shells or sea urchins. Goat Island was the first marine reserve in the world- where everything from the fish down to the grains of sand are protected!

No. You will need your own transport. We recommend hiring a car for the day and enjoying the other incredible sights while you are up here.&nbsp;

Experience Goat Island&#39;s spectacular underwater world. The Goat Island Marine Reserve is a great example of a healthy New Zealand marine environment; it is beautiful, full of life, and you get to explore with some incredibly friendly fish!

&nbsp;

The reserve is home to huge snappers, red moki, goat-fish and triple fins, as well as schools of parore, kahawai, sweep, silver drummers, trevally.

&nbsp;

And that&#39;s not all!&nbsp;There&#39;s also have crayfish, octopuses, stingrays, eagle rays... and if we&#39;re super lucky dolphins, seals and orca sometimes pop in and say hi!

<h3>Goat Island&#39;s Shore Dive Sites</h3>

ABC bay - Dive in a bay with stingrays and blue maomao, over kelp forests and along cliff sides.

Shag Rock - A large, lone rock surrounded by kelp that is a favourite with the fish, which makes it a definite favourite of ours!

Waterfall Reef - Off out at the southern side of the channel, lots of schools and crayfish.

 
Caves - Anenomes, nudibranchs and sponges... this is one for the invertebrate and macro specialists.

Yellow Sponge Garden - Adventure through large crevices covered in kelp, discover hidden crayfish, bigeye and tiny triple fins.

Eagle Ray Flats - Eagle rays bask on the sand, schools of fish hang out and feed in the currents while our famous snapper cruise around curiously.

 
​All dives are conducted from the shore, within the Goat Island Marine Reserve.

NB: Not all dive spots are available at all times, both current and tides have to be right to enter some of them. Some of the dive spots also require a surface swim. If you want to do one in particular please contact us before booking.

		<li>Sun Exposure and Hydration: Prolonged exposure to sun and saltwater can lead to dehydration and sunburn. Use reef-safe sunscreen and hydrate regularly.</li>
		<li>Depth and Pressure (For Diving): Diving involves pressure changes. Follow instructor guidance to minimize risks like barotrauma</li>
		<li>Equipment Handling: Proper equipment use is essential. Listen to safety briefings and ask questions as needed</li>
