The Whitsundays - or Whitsunday Islands - form a large archipelago that consists of 74 islands that are part of the state of Queensland. 

The Whitsundays is located in the northeast of Australia, which means travellers will experience a tropical climate. It never gets cold here, and the annual average temperature is roughly 20 degrees. The warmest period is from November to March.

The Whitsundays are your typical postcard islands: white-sand beaches, the lush vegetation, and the translucent water of the Coral Sea are what backpackers’ dreams are made of.

Airlie Beach is the portal to the island group, and from here you can participate in hair-raising activities, such as a scenic flight over the Whitsundays and Heart Reef and an Ocean Rafting adventure.

Kayaking in Whitsundays is the most popular thing to do. Paddle over the crystal clear water of the Coral Sea from Airlie Beach and have a chance to bump into aquatic animals such as sea turtles.

Whitsundays most famous beach is, without a doubt, Whitehaven Beach. The water here has a surrealistic clarity, and the area around it has several spectacular sandbars. One of the ways to see this waterfront with your own eyes is via the Thundercat tour.
