Frequently Asked Questions

Swimming is a popular activity at Litchfield’s waterfalls and natural pools, but access depends on seasonal conditions. During the wet season from November to April, heavy rainfall, flooded roads and temporary closures may affect swimming locations. Some waterholes can close at short notice for safety reasons, so swimming cannot be guaranteed.

Your guide will adjust the itinerary and visit other areas of the park that are open and safe to explore. You may still get to enjoy beautiful waterfalls, monsoon rainforest and scenic lookout points.

Keep an eye out for native wildlife, including wallabies, flying foxes and a variety of bird species. Saltwater crocodiles may also be present in certain creeks, so always follow local safety advice.

Stay on designated walking tracks, follow park signs and avoid swimming outside designated swimming areas. Always observe crocodile safety advice around waterways and follow your guide's instructions, especially when conditions or park closures change.

The park has picnic areas, BBQ facilities, public toilets and educational displays. Cafés and gift shops can also be found near some of the main attractions.

Litchfield National Park is located on the traditional lands of several Aboriginal peoples, including the Marrathiel, Marranunggu, Werat, Warray and Koongurrukun peoples. Visitors are encouraged to respect these cultural places and follow any directions or restrictions provided by park authorities.
