The free accommodation will be a room in the lodge at the tour operator's Base in Owhango. Your booking group will have a room to yourself unless otherwise stated (will only be shared in extremely busy circumstances).
Showers and toilets are available. Very basic cooking facilities at the moment as the kitchen is under construction.
Lounge and dining area with TV, coffee and tea facilities for you to relax. Grassed area out the front with picnic tables.
- Journey Departures are approx. 7.45am from Owhango Adventures Base
- Journey Pick Up is 1.00pm at Pipiriki
- Arrival back at Owhango approx. 2.30pm
- Personal Locator Beacon (Although this is not compulsory, but it is recommended)
- Tent, even if you have booked Huts/Lodges a tent is a basic requirement for the outdoors and is advised
- Pots, pans, and eating utensils
- Gas cooker
- Enough food for the whole trip and for an extra day
- Snacks and nibbles for in between meals
- Toilet paper
- Torch or headlamp with spare batteries
- Clothing suitable for canoeing – No jeans
- Camping clothing and equipment
- Swimmers
- Complete change of warm clothes
- Towel
- Two to three polypropylene or woolen tops
- Sun hat / warm hat
- Warm socks
- Waterproof light weight jacket or Parker
- Shoes suitable for canoeing in, and a separate pair for at the campsites. Please note, jandals, thongs, and flip flops are not suitable for this trip.
- Sleeping bag / sleeping mat
- Basic toiletries (no soap in river)
- Insect repellent/Sunscreen
- We do not recommend paddling with any expensive
electronics - There are rainwater tanks at every DOC campsite approximately every two hours along the river. DOC do advise that you boil or filter the water.
There is a fair amount of paddling each day so please ensure all members of your group have a good fitness level.
