The Tongariro Alpine Crossing is one of the most popular of the 9 &#39;Great Walks&#39;&nbsp;designated by the New Zealand Department of Conservation. Crossing the edge of Mount Tongariro and Mount Ngauruhoe,&nbsp;The Tongariro Alpine Crossing walkway takes you on&nbsp;a walk across a lunar-like landscape, offering views of active volcanoes and recent lava flows.

The crossing winds through mountains sacred to Ngāti Hikairo ki Tongariro of Ngāti Tūwharetoa. Every step is an opportunity to connect with the essence of the land and ultimately contribute towards its care. The walk generally takes between 9 &amp; 10 hours depending on the level of fitness. Owhango Adventures will drop you off at the start of the walk in the morning and pick you up at the end in the carpark.

Settle into comfortable accommodation near Tongariro National Park for two nights, allowing you to prepare for the big hike with ease.&nbsp;Accommodation on the first night is from 4pm onwards.

The adventure starts with a hearty breakfast, followed by a convenient shuttle service that drops you off right at the Tongariro Alpine Crossing trailhead. Hike the 19.4-kilometre trail at your own pace, traversing volcanic craters, emerald lakes, and rugged alpine terrain. Once you complete the crossing, a shuttle awaits to bring you back to your accommodation, where you can relax and unwind after the trek.
