This tour starts in Hanoi, Vietnam and ends in Siem Reap, Cambodia. It’s best to arrive on the day of your tour. Your guide will meet you at Hanoi’s International Airport and take you to your hotel from there. Once you have booked your flights, please contact our team or the Intro Travel team directly to let them know so they can schedule your airport pick-up.

The majority of our group members are solo travellers, so joining one of our group tours is a great way to meet people and make friends. Before your trip starts we'll put you in touch with the rest of your group so you can start chatting and get to know each other. And after the trip, a lot of people continue travelling with the new friends they've made!

Tour groups usually have around 12-16 people in them, with ages typically ranging from 18 to early 40s. People from all over the world join these tours, so you’ll get to bond with a wide range of people who all share your passion for travel! As long as you have an appetite for adventure and are happy bonding with people of all backgrounds, you’ll fit in perfectly!

Rooming is organised on a twin-share basis. Solo travellers will be paired with another traveller of the same gender. There is also an optional single supplement available on most trips for travellers who prefer to have their own room.

Vietnam is a large country, and you’ll experience a lot of it! You can expect some longer travel days with some loud motorbike traffic in the main centres. Roads and transport in Cambodia are relatively basic, so expect some bumps on the included overnight bus and possible choppy seas on the boat to the islands. Safety is paramount, however, so you have nothing to worry about.

Delicious vegetarian cuisine is plentiful in Vietnam and Cambodia. While gluten-free and vegan options are available, they are less common, especially in Cambodia’s island communities, so expect fewer options on occasion. Your tour leader will do their best to provide suitable options. In Cambodia, you will find plenty of Western cuisine, but a wide variety of Western meals is not common in Vietnam. However, the authentic local food is outstanding!

All countries require a valid passport (with a minimum of 6 months validity). Visa requirements vary depending on your nationality, where you are travelling from, and the country you are travelling to. It’s your responsibility to check your visa and entry requirements for this tour well in advance of your departure date.

We cannot apply for your visa on your behalf. You should also note that visa requirements can change and some countries require you to apply for a visa before you travel. As such, we strongly recommend contacting your relevant embassy or consulate website for more information on the country you’ll be travelling to.

Yes, travel insurance is compulsory on this trip. You’ll need to show proof of your policy to your group leader upon arrival (on your phone or printed out).

We strongly recommend checking the levels of coverage on any travel insurance policy before purchasing it to make sure it covers you for all the activities that you’ll be doing on the Tour. Your insurance should also cover you for any pre-existing medical or mental health conditions that you may require assistance for while on tour.

All your activities, transport, accommodation, and some meals are included in the tour price, so you will mainly just need to budget for extra meals, drinks, shopping, and onward travel expenses.

Every traveller is different and therefore everyone’s spending money requirements will vary. Some travellers may drink more than others while other travellers like to purchase more souvenirs than most. Please consider your own spending habits when it comes to allowing for drinks, shopping and tipping.

You can have a plate of food for a street vendor for AU$2-$5, however there are always more expensive options. From a mid-range, sit-down restaurant, expect to pay AU$5-$30 - not including alcohol.

When visiting sites of religious significance, all travellers should wear clothing that covers their shoulders and knees. In some sites in South East Asia, thongs are not allowed (ie. Royal Palace in Phnom Penh). Please check with your leader or local guide.

When you pack your clothing, consider the climate at the time of year you are travelling and any specific requirements for your trip as at certain times of the year some of the items suggested in the list that follow may not be necessary.

Bear in mind that the weather will vary significantly from place to place. Most of the time the weather is warm in South East Asia; however, it may be distinctly cold up in the highlands. Laundry facilities are available in most destinations.

Below is a list of equipment and documentation that we suggest you take with you. Please use this checklist as a guide when packing for your holiday.

  • Travel documents: passport, visa (if required), travel insurance, flight tickets, etc.
  • Photocopy of the above documents
  • Spare passport photos
  • Money: cash, credit/debit cards
  • Money belt
  • Small padlocks
  • Small first-aid kit
  • Daypack for use on day or overnight excursions
  • Watch/alarm clock and torch/flashlight (and spare batteries)
  • Electrical adapter plug
  • Toiletries/roll of toilet paper/travel wipes
  • Insect repellent
  • Sunscreen, lip balm, sunhat and sunglasses
  • Earplugs and eye mask (for light sleepers)
  • Extra pair of prescription glasses (if required)
  • 2 strong plastic garbage bags (for laundry and in case of rain)
  • Refillable water bottle
  • Phrasebook
  • Warm clothes - when travelling in cooler climates
  • Wind and waterproof jacket
  • Comfortable and sturdy walking shoes with good walking socks
  • Camera and charger, spare batteries
  • Swimwear

You can view a complete packing checklist on the INTRO Travel App. iPhone users can download this application via Apple’s App Store. Alternatively, android users can download the app through Google Play.

Whether you’re travelling with a backpack or a suitcase, the main thing to keep in mind is not to bring too much stuff!

We strongly recommend that you pack no more than 20 kg of luggage for this trip. If you haven’t got a backpack yet, we recommend trying to get one that zips open along the side.

You'll also need a small overnight bag (we would recommend a dry bag/waterproof bag) for the 3-day boat expedition.

The accommodation ranges from local homestays to hotels and overnight trains. All are a nice standard, clean and comfortable, however, the homestay is quite rural so expect some bumpy roads, western but basic amenities, and more bugs and wildlife in the area.

On the islands in Cambodia, the community live a more basic life. As such, you should expect more basic accommodation and less reliable infrastructure.
